What to Expect From a Typical Team Building Program

Our programs have something for everyone—regardless of weight, fear of heights, or competitiveness.

Team building in the forest

1. Custom Team Building Activities

Every team is unique, so we’ll work with you to customize activities that will work for your team. We start by taking the time to learn about your group (strengths and weaknesses of the team, the range of ages within the group, the level of interest in high or low physical challenge activities, etc.) and then we provide multiple options for you to choose from.

2. Walk the Trails, Build Relationships, and Eat

In addition to structured team building exercises and activities, we also offer 10+ miles of walking trails and a large patio with a fire pit. Our Welcome Center offers indoor meeting spaces, restrooms and a fireplace. We can connect you with a catering option that fits your tastes so you can stay on site for a meal or two with your team.

Many of our groups end their team building experience by adding the excitement of our 1200′ double racing zipline. Have some folks in your group who want to keep their feet on the ground?  Fear not, we have plenty of options to keep everyone engaged.

Other Add-on Experiences

16 traversing elements set in the tree tops create a physical and mental challenge that opens your group to new levels of mutual support and understanding.

No, there is no weight requirement for participation in our team building activities. For zip-lining and the high ropes course we do require participants to be between 70 and 250 pounds.

  • Closed toe and secure heel shoes are required on the course.
  • Long hair should be tied back.

The Acknowledgement of Risk form must be signed individually by all participants. Parents/Guardians must sign on behalf of minors.  A link to the online waiver will be sent as part of your reservation confirmation.  A pdf of the waiver form can be provided if it will be easier for you to utilize printed waivers.

We can plan programs for most any age. However, team building focused on enhancing collaboration, problem-solving, leadership skills, etc., typically works best starting with middle school age participants.

We’ll build a program that will work for your team.  For example, we can have everyone in the group participate in team building initiatives for the first half of the program and then split the group so those who want to zip-line can do so while those who prefer not to zip-line participate in our scavenger hunt that utilizes our hiking trails.

The foundation of our team building experiences are group initiatives. These activities consist of facilitated challenges that help participants explore their role within the group, how they interact with other group members, and build leadership, problem-solving, goal settings, etc. skills (specific areas of focus are determine by the participant group leader during our pre-program planning process).  Initiatives are active, hands-on, and tailored to meet the interests/needs of each group.  So the same activity might be used with a high school soccer team and a workplace team of professional colleagues but the exact guidelines for how to accomplish the task, the discussions during the activity and the debriefing discussion will be very different.

Our Approach to Team Building

We Focus on You

Our staff work with you prior to your team building program to discuss your goals for the experience, to review aspects of the group such as participant ages, any physical accommodations that should be planned for and how we can best assist the group to transfer their team building experience into their day-to-day interactions with one another.

Outcomes Focused

We want to help you accomplish the outcome you set out to acheive. Whether that’s building leadership, effective communication, collaborative, or just trying to have fun as a team, we’ve got you covered. Our hands-on approach to group development offers a unique opportunity for group members to interact, bond, explore roles within the group, have fun and learn from their successes and failures.

Experiential Learning

Our approach to team building programs is based on the practices of experiential education. Perhaps best explained through the Experiential Learning Cycle, this process involves:

  • Having a new experience and then
  • Reflecting on that experience in order to
  • Extract lessons and/or develop skills from it and then
  • Apply the resulting learning by implementing newly enhanced skills during the next set of challenges (or applying them when back “home” in the workplace, school, etc.).

This process is especially valuable for those seeking a way to encourage members of their group to be thoughtful in how they approach challenges, problem solve, and build success.
